Savannah-Hope's Journey

One month ago today (Sept 4th), Savannah-Hope was relinquished by her parents and then began her journey.... a second chance at life.

You can see how swollen her eyes were. She was so tiny, but so puffy. Her birthmother, Chrissie, dressed her up in this pretty dress and even put a diaper on her.
Many people from the village gathered to see Savannah-Hope off on her journey. At first I was surprised that everyone seemed so excited and happy. Not a tear was shed. And then I realized that they had already come to accept they were going to loose this little peanut. She was very sick and weak. She had gone quite sometime without food and the fluid retention was probably an indication that her kidneys were close to shutting down. This family knew she would be leaving them soon....but hadn't even let themselves dream that she might get a second chance at life. They were so excited about the opportunities Savannah-Hope would have in America with her adoptive family.

Here is her big sister, Tamandani age 2 1/2. Oh how I would love to help this little one too. And her twin sister!

Here are the village boys. There were very few girls in this village, not sure why.

Here are the birth parents, just seconds before Savannah-Hope left the village.

Here is Savannah-Hope's birth family saying good-by in front of their house.

First bottle ever! Look how much bigger the bottle is than her.

Yum! This is good stuff!

Hi Lewis and Bonnie,
We have all been thinking of you and enjoying reading about everything that is going on in Malawi. Savannah is precious and we read that you enjoyed giving her caretaker a break.. We read about you t-shirt tye dying and how the kids enjoyed the experience. Great job! Back here: Thelma had her baby - a girl - Lilly Hayden 6lbs 12ozs and 20" long. Lilly had a little set back as she had to go back to the hospital and be treated for jaundice. She is doing better and they expect to bring her back home today (10/5). Aaron and Mandy found out yesterday they are having a girl -- they are excited. Marian is here from Ga. James is coming home from Iraq on the 6th for 14 days. Then back to Iraq and home for good in April. Everyone else seems to be doing pretty good. Good Night, God Bless You and we Love You. Keep up the good work and we will see you when you get home. We look forward to hearing about everything you are doing over there. Love, Grandma, Marian, Joseph and Linda
