Day 20 in Malawi, September 3, 2007

This morning Thandie woke up early and took the high school kids to school. Peace stayed home from school today because she has a terrible cold and cough. We stayed in bed and watched bible stories on DVD in some language that neither one of us knew. I cracked up when I turned on the blow dryer and Peace turned up the television. She couldn’t understand what they were saying, but I guess she felt better being able to hear it.

Today the container was opened. What a project! It went well, only two casualties. The windshield of the dump truck completely busted. Apparently the container was tipped on its side at some point and the popcorn machine fell on the truck and the windshield is completely destroyed. Luckson one of the electricians here at good Samaritan was hit in the head with something from the container but they took him right to the hospital patched him up and he is as good as new. The children were very excited about the bicycles. It was exciting to see all the much needed supplies that were sacrificially given, get to where the need is.

Tonight we made tacos at Thandies. It was so good to have Mexican food! Also made for fun conversation as taco means buttocks in Chichewa. The kids here at Thandies weren’t so sure they wanted to eat a taco. But they laughed and ate and enjoyed it.

Heather is still in the hospital with her broken arm. They can’t put the cast on until the swelling goes down. So she is in the hospital with her arm tied to the ceiling for elevation. It is a bummer that they don’t have ice in Malawi…I really think that is why I had such a huge problem with the swelling when I broke my leg.

Well that is it for now....
